Cadenza String Quartet OttawaDecember-23-05 - Cadenza String Quartet featured at YMCA Christmas party

The musicians of the Cadenza String Quartet were happy to provide entertainment for the YMCA's annual Christmas party on Saturday, December 10th, 2005. October-11-05 - Solo violin or cello with piano accompaniment now available

Cadenza Strings is happy to announce that we can now provide solo string players with piano accompaniment. Our pianists have portable keyboards, so if your venue doesn't have a piano - no problem, we can provide one!

October-07-05 - Charlie Brown show at Canterbury High School a huge success

You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, directed by Canterbury High School grade 12 Drama student Alex Leafloor, was a great success. The musical production ran from October 5th-7th and the accompanying orchestra included Cadenza musicians Adam Shugar (music director, piano) and Sonya Matoussova (violin, viola).

October-01-05 - University of Ottawa Orchestra Concert Friday, October 14th

Cadenza Strings musicians Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh (violin) & Won-Hee Lee (viola) are playing in the University of Ottawa Orchestra this year. Their first concert will be on Friday, October 14th, 2005 at 8:00pm at St. Joseph's Church. The program includes Beethoven's Prometheus Overture and Symphony No.3 "Eroica".

September-06-05 - Three Cadenza musicians part of the 05/06 Junior Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra

Cadenza Strings violinists Yolanda Bruno, Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh, and Olga Rykov will be performing as members of the Junior Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra for the 2005/2006 season. You can see them alongside the Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra on September 18th, 2005 playing a joint concert titled "Famous Films" (including music from The Mission, Schindler's List, and Harry Potter) at 8:00pm at St. Andrew's Church on Kent Street (at Wellington).

August-26-05 - Two Cadenza musicians moving on

With the excitement of the new academic year comes the bittersweet knowledge that two of our violists will no longer be playing with us - Shasta Ellenbogen will be studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and Ian Quane will be studying at the University of Western Ontario. We will miss them, but perhaps they will come back and play a concert with us in the near future... We will keep everyone posted!

August-23-05 - Summer music experiences

As the summer is wrapping up, our musicians are returning from various summer music academies and training programs. Yolanda Bruno spent July in Calgary as a participant of the Morningside Music Bridge Summer Program, and then went on to the Orford Arts Centre with Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh, joining fellow Cadenza Strings musician Mathieu Saindon. Sonya Matoussova worked with David Stewart and Philippe Djokic at le Domaine Forget Summer Music Academy. Won-Hee Lee and Olga Rykov participated in Pinchas Zukerman's Junior Young Artists Program and were members of the 2005 National Youth Orchestra of Canada, along with Shasta Ellenbogen. Greg Weeks was part of the SuzukiMusic ensemble which travelled to Japan in July to perform at the World Expo 2005, and he also performed in the 2005 Ottawa Chamber Music Festival as a cellist of the Sonore ii Ensemble. All in all, it was a successful two months!

The musicians of Cadenza Strings are proud to present our newly redesigned website. It features more information about the group and what we do, as well as details on upcoming performances. Special thanks to web designer Alex Wenzowski for his invaluable input and assistance in getting the new version up and running!

July-01-2005 - Canada Day with the Cadenza String Quartet

The Cadenza String Quartet played at the corner of Byward and York Street today as part of Ottawa's Canada Day celebrations. It was a great day, despite the huge amount of wind! Luckily the thunderstorm held off until the late afternoon...

June-06-2005 - Solo cello featured at local art exhibit

Cadenza Strings cellist Sonya Matoussova performed solo during Gordon Harrison's Spring Exhibit of Canadian Oil Paintings. The exhibition took place Saturday, June 4th & Sunday, June 5th at the New Edinburgh Studio, 81 John St.

April-14-2005 - Performance at the Korean Ambassador's Residence

The Cadenza String Quartet performed a short concert yesterday evening. Presented by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Sung-joon Yim, it was held in honour of the Canada-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group.

April-13-2005 - Kiwanis Music Festival

The Cadenza String Quartet performed the Barber Adagio today in the Kiwanis Music Festival Open Chamber Music - Bowed Strings class, receiving a mark of 88 and winning the James Rattray Wilson Trophy. Click here for a photo.

March-08-2005 - International Women's Day

The Cadenza String Quartet was pleased to provide live music for City Councillor Diane Deans' 11th Annual International Women's Day Breakfast, this morning. The ensemble was recommended to Councilor Deans as 'an exceptionally talented group'.
