October 29th, 2006 - Upcoming orchestra concerts

Monday, November 13th - Ottawa Symphony Orchestra & Ottawa Choral Society: Four Last Songs (Strauss) and A German Requiem (Brahms). National Arts Centre, 8PM.

Thursday, November 23rd - University of Ottawa Orchestra: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (Debussy), Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (Bach) and Symphony No.5 (Mendelssohn). St. Joseph's Church, 8PM.

July 13th, 2006 - Cadenza in the Market

You may have happened upon Sonya Matoussova and Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh performing in the Byward Market over the past couple of weeks. They will be playing again tomorrow (July 14th) from 11am-1pm. They are away at Le Domaine Forget Summer Music Academy and the Orford Arts Centre from July 16th to August 13th, but will be back in the market on August 20th, and hopefully many times thereafter! June 29th, 2006 - Concert photos up

Some photos from the Cadenza String Quartet's concert have been posted here, and we hope to have some more up soon. The concert went very well, and the quartet is looking forward to future performances!

The quartet was unfortunately unable to perform in the Provincial Finals. The festival changed the performance date with only a week to go, and the musicians had prior engagements.

This summer will be a busy one for the quartet's musicians - Siobhan Deshauer is already in Cleveland, Ohio studying at the ENCORE School for Strings, and Emilie Grimes is currently in Montreal, QC playing in the 2006 National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh and Sonya Matoussova will leave mid-way through July for Le Domaine Forget, in St. Irenée, QC, where Sonya will stay until mid-August. Brenna will leave for the Orford Arts Centre in Magog, QC at the end of July, before returning to Ottawa in mid-August.

May-08-2006 - Cadenza String Quartet Concert on June 2nd, 2006

Come out to see the Cadenza String Quartet perform on Friday, June 2nd, 2006 at St. Giles' Presbyterian Church. The concert starts at 8pm and will include works by Dvorak and Mozart. Visit the concert page for more info!

April-27-2006 - Cadenza String Quartet qualifies for provincials in June!

The Cadenza String Quartet performed again today in the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival Provincial Qualifying Class with great success - Siobhan Deshauer, Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh, Emilie Grimes and Sonya Matoussova will be traveling to London, ON to represent Ottawa at the 2006 Provincial Competition from June 9th-13th, 2006. Their performance of Dvorak's Quartet No.12 "American" (first and second movements) and Schubert's Quartet in A minor "Rosamunde" (fourth movement) earned them a mark of 92 and a tie with the Double-O Trio for Gold.

April-26-2006 - Cadenza String Quartet wins Silver in Kiwanis

The Cadenza String Quartet performed the first and third movements of Mozart's Quartet No.17 in B flat major "The Hunt" in the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival's Anantaraman Trophy and Scholarship Class today at the Salvation Army Ottawa Citadel, winning Silver with a mark of 90. The Trio con Brio won Gold, and the Double-O Trio took Bronze. Three wonderful perfomances by 10 talented young musicians!

March-26-2006 - National Youth Orchestra of Canada audition results

Congratulations to Cadenza Strings musicians Emilie Grimes, Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh and Olga Rykov, who were all accepted into the National Youth Orchestra of Canada! A full list of the 2006 NYOC musicians can be found here. The 2006 training session will take place in Montreal from June 25th to July 25th, and the orchestra will then do a concert tour, performing in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The Ottawa concert will take place on Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in Southam Hall of the National Arts Centre - not an event to be missed!

March-08-2006 - International Women's Day

The Cadenza String Quartet performed this morning for City Councillor Diane Deans' 12th Annual International Women's Day Breakfast. Ms. Deans said afterward, "The event was a great success and my guests thoroughly enjoyed your welcoming music. I received numerous comments on the talent of your group."

March-01-2006 - The Manor Bridal Show

Cadenza Strings took part in the Manor Bridal Show at the Keg Manor on Sunday, February 26th, 2006. It was a great way to meet other Ottawa wedding vendors, as well as to spend an enjoyable day performing chamber music. We were particularly impressed by the graphic design work of Hot Square Studio, the wedding decoration by Wedecor, the photo collages of Fine Design, the delicious chocolate from Linbridge Designs, and the wedding cakes by TJ's Cake Design. January-29-2006 - Upcoming concerts

The University of Ottawa Orchestra will perform a concert on Friday, February 10th at St. Joseph's Church, starting at 8:00pm. The program includes Metamorphosen for 23 Solo Strings by Strauss and Symphony No.2 in D major by Brahms.

On Sunday, February 19th at the Ottawa Technical Learning Centre, the Ottawa Youth Orchestra will be joined by the West Island Youth Orchestra for a program including works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Glinka and Holst. The concert begins at 2:30pm.

The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra (OSO) will be joined by the Ottawa Youth Orchestra on Monday, February 27th at the National Arts Centre. The two orchestras, under the direction of David Currie, will perform Capriccio espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov and Capriccio italien by Tchaikovsky, and the OSO will finish the concert with Symphony No.1 by Shostakovich. The concert begins at 8:00pm.

January-17-2006 - Upcoming event: Canterbury Stars Return Gala on February 11th, 2006

Cadenza Strings musicians Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh, Sonya Matoussova, Ian Quane and Greg Weeks will be members of the pit orchestra accompanying many Canterbury graduates (including soprano Shannon Mercer) to be featured at the Canterbury Stars Return 5th Annual Variety & Visual Art Show. The event takes place in the Barrie Alexander Auditorium at Canterbury High School on Saturday, February 11th, 2006, starting at 7:30pm.
