November 24th, 2007 - Tiberius Week 2007 updateThe Cadenza String Duo (Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh, violin & Sonya Matoussova, cello) has just returned from Targu Mures, Romania (via London, England, where they visited former Cadenza Strings violist Shasta Ellenbogen, who is currently studying at the Guildhall School). Brenna and Sonya resided in the guestroom of the beautiful Cultural Palace, where they were participants in the 2007 edition of the Tiberius International Chamber Music Festival. The duo received daily coachings from Romanian cellist Stefan Metz (of the Orlando String Quartet) and Hungarian violinist Sandor Devich (of the Bartok String Quartet). Brenna and Sonya attended professional concerts of chamber music every night, which included performances by the host Tiberius Quartet, the Rubens Quartet (from Holland) and various guest musicians from the area. The student groups participating in the masterclass program included the Anima Quartet (Romania), the Mavron Quartet (England), and the Attacca Trio (Netherlands). The week-long festival concluded with two concerts by the student ensembles, the first held in the Small Concert Hall of the Cultural Palace, and the second in the city of Udvarhely, 100 kilometres from Targu Mures. Please see our photo gallery for some pictures of the festival.
